East of the Web Short Stories
I list this site with a caution, the site accepts user submissions and there is a lot of material to be viewed. Caution: If you aren't familiar with the short story being presented, please pre-screen it. The same is true of the word games. You will need to determine whether they are appropriate for your child. That being said, there are lots of short stories available online at this site. Your child can write and submit their own short story, or play very challenging word games. There is a special section for teachers, but it is still under development. The site says that you can license the games for educational uses and then customize the word lists. I've not looked into this yet, but that might be of interest. Games with the words you want your child to learn- always a plus!
