Caution, this site is addicting. You can log on at any time to see live video footage from a watering hole in Africa. Though sometimes there's nothing but the sound of birds chirping, we have seen zebras, hyenas, Egyptian geese, wildebeests, and giraffes. This is a very cool site.

 

Afterschool Agriculture
Sponsored by Ohio 4-H Youth Development, this website offers two online "books" full of agriculture-themed web units. Each book contains 40 activities that can be completed within in 30 minutes and are appropriate for 3rd-5th grade students. Also visit National 4-H Curriculum Projects Online to locate additional projects in a variety of subject areas prepared by 4-H programs across the nation.

A science cirriculum based on young earth theology . The site offers information about the cirriculum as well as links to other resources, including homeschooler created content

This site is hosted by a Valpo physics professor. He enjoys sharing his hobby of "Boatology". This site provides a fun way for your child to see real-life applications of those physics and math lessons.

This site offers an overview of chemistry for young and old alike.  From this site you can also access related sites covering astronomy, biology, earth science, physics and math. This site has a lot of Google ads and it is sometimes difficult to distinguish the advertisements from the content on the main page.

Education World's Tech Center
Integrate technology into your studies and find great science lessons at this site. Included is a lesson plan of the week and a library of templates for creating your own lessons.

This site offers a limited number of free educational resources focusing on science.  Featured activities include studies on simple machines, weather and knee surgery.

 

Energy Quest

This interactive energy education website was created by the California Energy Commission.  The site includes several activities and learning tools.  From the colorful EQ homepage complete with sound effects, you can access games, science projects and additional resources.

Wow!  I’d describe it but I don’t use words that big- just kidding (no I’m not.) From this webpage you can access the award winning “Inner Life of a Cell” animated production, as well many other scientific concepts visually presented.  If you watch the Opticell presentation, have some fun and count how many syringes it takes to complete the process.  Caution: These presentations were created for presentation to adult students, so content may not be appropriate for all age levels. 

Note: A useful explanation of the Inner Life of a Cell production is provided at Flixxy.com, however this website offers a wide variety of user produced materials so viewing discretion is strongly advised. 

 

 Internet Center for Wildlife Damage Management 

This site is sponsored by several universities and contains extensive information on identifying and managing various types of wildlife. In addition the site offers links to additional educational resources offering lesson plans on wildlife and wildlife management and several wildlife related games. There are a lot of downloads and articles located on this website and links to many more on other sites though the information is a bit scattered, so take your time and look around.   The images in the library are subject to a copyright agreement, but are available for individual non-profit educational use.  Note: This site is designed to assist in controlling the damage done to property by wildlife so not all information and articles will have a point of view favorable to the animal.

This website offers doctor-approved health information for parents, teens and younger kids.  The site is divided into separate sections for each age group.  Features on the website include articles, games, movies and other resources.  At this site you can view a glossary of medical terms in age-appropriate language, watch a movie about how the body works, find healthy recipes and play games. 

 

Kinetic City Mission to Vearth
Here you'll find resources for educators to take their students through the "Mission to Vearth". The program was created for students in grades 3 through 5 and includes 100 science activities using hands-on demonstrations, writing and internet research, interactive science games, art projects and physical activities. You can download a complete educator's guide for each grade level from the site.

 

 

Molecular Expressions

“Exploring the World of Optics and Microscopy”- I’m not sure I can adequately describe this website as it is one that simply must be seen to understand.  Here’s the site’s own description: “We are going where no microscope has gone before by offering one of the Web’s largest collection of color photographs taken through an optical microscope…”  Themed galleries include an exploration of the universe from its far reaches to a single cell here on earth, views of amino acids, gemstones, DNA and more.  The site also includes several interactive tutorials exploring various microscopes and imaging techniques.  Note: The subject matter covered by some of the galleries may be objectionable, please exercise discretion in making use of this resource.

Yes, you read that correctly. A kind professor has created a website to teach children about the workings of the nervous system. Very cool.

 

Newton BBS
This is the site of the Newton BBS Ask A Scientist Service, a service of the Argonne National Laboratory. If you have a question you can check the Newton archives and if it's not been answered before, ask a scientist!  At this site you'll also find links to pages created by teachers for teachers designed to further scientific education.  There are lots of great resources here for your science lessons.

Operated by Purdue University of Indiana. This site offers educational resources on family, agribusiness and the environment. The booklets are sold online, but many may be downloaded free of charge.
